What’s in it for US, Rubio says NATO must benefit all members ahead of Sweden meeting

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Friday that NATO must be beneficial for all member nations, speaking ahead of a NATO meeting in Helsingborg, Sweden.

“Like any alliance, it has to be good for everyone who’s involved. There has to be a clear understanding of what the expectations are,” Rubio said.

Rubio said the meeting will establish the foundation for the NATO leaders summit scheduled to take place in Ankara, Turkey later this year.

The Secretary of State also addressed Iran, stating there has been slight progress on the matter. However, he said a tolling system Iran is attempting to create in the Strait of Hormuz would be unacceptable.

“Iran is trying to create a tolling system in straight and no nation should accept it,” Rubio said, adding that the proposed tolling system in the strait is unacceptable.
