We need more security, Akamai (NASDAQ: AKAM) to acquire LayerX for $205 million to enhance AI security
Akamai Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM) announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire LayerX for approximately $205 million. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.
LayerX provides browser-based AI usage control and secure enterprise browser technology. The company’s solutions work with popular browsers without requiring organizations to switch to proprietary alternatives, allowing users to continue with their preferred browsers while providing security teams with visibility and control over AI interactions.
“Our customers are adopting AI at record speed, and they’re telling us the same thing: Their existing controls cannot see how employees are interacting with AI tools and sharing with large language models,” said Mani Sundaram, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Security Technology Group at Akamai.
The acquisition will integrate LayerX’s technology with Akamai’s existing Zero Trust portfolio, which includes Zero Trust Network Access and runtime protection of AI applications. LayerX employees, including co-founders Or Eshed and David Vaisbrud, will join Akamai’s Zero Trust organization.
This marks Akamai’s fourth cybersecurity acquisition in Tel Aviv over the past five years. LayerX currently has annual recurring revenue of approximately $10 million at year end.
