U.S. nonfarm payrolls unexpectedly decline by 23,000 in July

The U.S. economy unexpectedly shed 23,000 jobs in July, while the unemployment rate cooled slightly to 4.1% from 4.2%, according to Labor Department data on Friday.

Economists had anticipated nonfarm payrolls growth of 85,000 last month.

Meanwhile, the amount of roles added in June was revised down to 20,000 from 57,000.
