Trimming down cost, Starbucks to close 250 North America stores
Starbucks (SBUX) said it plans to close 250 underperforming stores in North America, a move that will result in approximately $300 million in restructuring charges, according to a regulatory filing.
The closures represent about 1% of the company’s roughly 18,000 North America locations. Starbucks said it expects to complete most of the closures by the end of fiscal year 2026.
The announcement comes as CEO Brian Niccol continues efforts to reverse declining sales. One year prior, Starbucks closed several underperforming stores in North America, including its Seattle roastery, as part of a restructuring effort estimated to have cost approximately $1 billion.
