Positioning for market shift, S&P Global agrees to acquire blockchain security firm OpenZeppelin
S&P Global (SPGI) has entered into an agreement to acquire OpenZeppelin, a blockchain security and smart contract company founded in 2015, the company announced Sept. 17, 2026.
OpenZeppelin’s open-source smart contract library underpins more than $37 trillion in value transferred, including a large share of major stablecoins and tokenized funds. The company has completed more than 900 security engagements for digital asset protocols and institutions.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. S&P Global said the deal is not expected to have a material impact on its financial results.
Following the close of the transaction, OpenZeppelin will continue to operate as a separate business unit under its existing name. Demian Brener, OpenZeppelin’s CEO, will continue to lead the business, reporting to Yann Le Pallec, President of S&P Global Ratings.
