Legal battle, Red Bull sues India over ban on energy drink label

Red Bull has filed a lawsuit against India’s food regulator in the Delhi High Court over a ban on using the “energy drink” descriptor, according to a Reuters report Monday citing a court filing.

The Austrian beverage maker submitted its legal challenge on September 25, the filing showed. The company said the regulator prohibited the use of the term without issuing any warning notice.

Red Bull stated in its filing that the government directives arbitrarily interfere with its long-standing commercial goodwill. The company said the directive to drop the energy drink descriptor risks adversely affecting its investments in India.
