I Plead the Fifth, Did Anthony Fauci’s attorneys give him sound legal advice?

Yesterday, former NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci’s repeated invocation of the Fifth Amendment during a Senate hearing may have protected him legally or did it. Republican lawmakers spoke about pursuing contempt proceedings if they successfully argue Fauci had no valid Fifth Amendment privilege.  Republicans argued Fauci’s pardon could undermine his claim that he faced legal jeopardy by testifying, while pointing out the issue remains legally unsettled because courts have never fully tested the scope of a preemptive presidential pardon.

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., continued his criticism of Dr. Anthony Fauci later Wednesday with a series of posts on X after the former top health official repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment during a Senate hearing.

Paul stated in his post that Fauci was “culpable” for COVID-era lockdowns.
