Huge win, Perma-Fix wins Hanford waste subcontract worth up-to $4.4B

Perma-Fix Environmental Services (PESI) has been awarded a Master Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity subcontract by Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure, LLC (H2C) for the treatment and disposal of pretreated liquid mixed low-level waste from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State.

The subcontract, effective August 11, 2026, allows task orders to be issued from January 1, 2027 through December 31, 2041, with performance permitted for up to five years beyond that period. The procurement carries a maximum cumulative quantity of 50 million gallons and a maximum cumulative value of $4.37 billion. Those figures represent ceilings shared among all subcontract holders and do not reflect amounts committed to Perma-Fix alone. H2C awarded the same subcontract to two other companies under the same procurement.

Work will be performed at Perma-Fix Northwest, the company’s licensed facility in Richland, Washington. The scope includes transportation, receipt verification, grouting, packaging, temporary storage, rail transportation, and final disposal at a licensed commercial facility outside Washington State. Perma-Fix is required to maintain treatment capacity of 100,800 gallons per week under the Performance Work Statement.

The company said it has made facility upgrades, procured large-scale treatment equipment, expanded its workforce, and acquired a rail-line land parcel connecting its Richland facility to the Port of Benton short-line railroad in preparation for the program.
