FAA to discuss flight cuts at Newark Airport to address delays

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is conducting a two-day meeting with major airlines to discuss a proposal to reduce flights at Newark Liberty International Airport. The meeting, which began on Wednesday, is aimed at addressing significant delays at the airport.

The meeting is being held in Washington D.C. and is a response to ongoing difficulties at the airport, including equipment outages and staffing problems. These issues have led to travel disruptions at one of the busiest airports in the United States, located in the New York metropolitan area.

In a notice issued prior to the meeting, the FAA stated that the airport is currently unable to cope with the volume of scheduled operations. The FAA believes that their proposal could alleviate overscheduling, flight delays, and cancellations, bringing them down to an acceptable level.

The FAA also highlighted ongoing runway construction at Newark as a significant issue. This construction has been a regular cause of flight cancellations and delays, affecting dozens of flights daily.
