Continuing conflict, Pentagon orders military to be ready for more Iran strikes

The Pentagon has instructed U.S. Central Command to complete preparations for a possible resumption of major combat operations in Iran, Axios reported late Wednesday, citing U.S. officials.
The directive did not set a date for potential strikes, and President Donald Trump has not made a final decision.
U.S. and Israeli officials said renewed military action could come before U.S. midterm elections, although the chances were considered low, with the likelihood rising significantly afterward, according to the report.
Any renewed campaign would likely involve extensive U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian energy, infrastructure and nuclear targets, Axios said.
Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke on Wednesday, their second call in several days, while Israel’s security leadership also discussed Iran.
