All part of the plan, FreightCar America acquires railcar parts distributor Southern Parts & Equipment
FreightCar America, Inc. (NASDAQ: RAIL) has completed the acquisition of Southern Parts & Equipment, Inc., a distributor of new, used and reconditioned railcar parts and equipment based in Monroe, Georgia, the company announced July 21, 2026.
The transaction marks FreightCar America’s second acquisition in the railcar aftermarket space within the past year. Southern Parts & Equipment supplies railcar parts and equipment to repair shops, railroads, private car owners and other industrial customers, and also provides rail industry consulting, inspections and project-related services.
Nicholas Randall, President and Chief Executive Officer of FreightCar America, said the acquisition “further strengthens our ability to support customers with improved access to critical railcar components, while advancing our strategy to build complementary aftermarket capabilities that increase the value we deliver across the railcar lifecycle.”
Michael Riordan, Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, said the transaction “is consistent with our disciplined capital allocation framework and is expected to be immediately accretive to FreightCar America.” Riordan added that Southern Parts & Equipment brings “customer relationships, product knowledge and sourcing capabilities” aligned with the company’s aftermarket growth strategy.
