It’s electric, Tesla breaks Norway’s annual car sales record

Tesla has sold more cars in Norway in 2025 than any other automaker ever did in a full year, according to registration data released Monday, setting a new annual sales record with one month still remaining in the year.

The electric vehicle maker registered 6,215 new cars in Norway during November, bringing its January-November total to 28,606 vehicles. This surpasses the previous full-year record of 26,575 set by Volkswagen in 2016, the Norwegian Road Federation reported.

Tesla’s sales in Norway have increased 34.6% year-to-date, with the mass market Model Y crossover leading the company’s strong performance in the country.

The achievement represents a bright spot for Tesla CEO Elon Musk, as the brand has faced consumer backlash in much of Europe over Musk’s support for far-right parties and his backing of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Norway continues to lead in electric vehicle adoption, with fully electric vehicles making up 97.6% of all new cars sold in the Nordic nation last month. This aligns with Norway’s goal of ending the sale of petrol and diesel combustion engines in 2025.
